Transport Infrastructure in Nowra and the Shoalhaven

The Shoalhaven area, which forms a part of the South Coast of New South Wales, has experienced a high influx of Government capital works over the last decade, and this trend is continuing. Recently completed projects have included the $92 million Main Road 92 Nerriga upgrade, providing better transport links with Canberra, as well as the Falls Creek duplication on the Princes Highway.

Major projects currently under construction, pending commencement or under final assessment are as follows:


Gerringong – Bomaderry (Princes Highway) upgrade – $830 million
Start date: 2011
Completion date (expected): Early –mid 2015

Funded by the New South Wales Government, the Roads and Maritime Services is upgrading the Princes Highway between Mount Pleasant and Toolijooa Road. Having commenced in 2011, it has an expected completion date of early – mid 2015.

The upgrade will provide 7.5km of upgraded highway and include two new interchanges with access to Gerringong and Gerroa.

South Nowra (Princes Highway) upgrade – $64 million

Completion date (expected): Late 2013

A $62 million upgrade of South Nowra is currently in progress. 6.3km of the Princes Highway, between Kinghorne Street and Forest Road is set to feature four lanes that will improve traffic flow and efficiency through the area. The project is being managed by the Roads and Maritime Services and Nace Civil Engineering.

Foxground and Berry proposed bypass

The proposed Foxground and Berry bypass would include 6.6km of new highway, bypassing the Foxground bends and the township of Berry. A four-lane divided highway with median separation for 11.6km would occur on the Princes Highway between Toolijooa Road and Schofields Lane.
