If you’re currently renting a property, and have decided you’d like a pet, then it’s important to seek approval by your real estate before doing so.
Pets will be considered, however it is at the owner’s discretion, and depending on where you live, pets may not be allowed due to body corporate rules, so there’s a chance your request will be denied.
Under no circumstances should you buy a new pet without seeking prior approval for the pet to reside at the property with you. This is considered a breach of contract and can result in your being evicted.
To seek approval, simply contact your real estate agent, advising them of the size, breed and age of the pet you’d like to purchase, and where it will be living. They will then contact the owner of the property to ascertain whether they are okay with this, and advise you accordingly.
Unfortunately if your request is denied, and you have your heart set on that new little bundle of fluff, you may need to review your current living arrangements and find somewhere that is pet friendly.
