First impressions do count!
So if you want to give your home instant street appeal this spring, then it’s time to get out into the garden!
Autumn is the ideal time for planting trees, shrubs and flowers and one of the easiest ways to reward yourself with an explosion of colour this spring is to plant bulbs.
Spring blooming bulbs come in an array of colours. There are all sorts of varieties to choose from including daffodils, tulips, alliums, freesias and hyacinths.
Planting bulbs is easy. Find a sunny spot in the garden that is well drained. You can add some compost to your soil for added nutrients and drainage if you wish. You don’t need to plant them deep – roughly twice the height of the bulb will do – then press them in and you’re done.
Daffodils, tulips and hyacinths are also excellent bulbs for pots and you can plant up to eight of them in each pot. This is great if you are renting or if you want to place the pots on a sunny veranda or deck.
When planting in garden beds it is best to place shorter bulbs at the front and plant the bulbs in zigzags rather than in straight lines. Make a grand statement with colour by mixing different bulbs together and if you’re unsure about how many to plant, more is always better.
So grab your shovel and your gloves, it’s time to plant.
